Know a small business owner? He or she probably eats, sleeps, and frets all day about work, especially if they’re new to the small-business game.
So what do you get get a small business owner, who has more often than not long-forsaken hobbies and nights out with friends?
Here’s a list of 10 ideas you might not expect!
#1 – Gift card… for a haircut.
Taking time (and money) out for luxuries like routine personal maintenance can be hard for an entrepreneur. Give your friend permission to feel pampered—or at least presentable.
#2 – Date night.
While this sounds like a generic gift that could work for any couple, significant others to business owners experience unique pressures and neglect. A movie night in (Netflix subscription and popcorn) or dinner out (throw in Uber credits to make it last longer) will be a meaningful gift not just for one person, but for two!
#3 – Self-care basket.
Back pain, headaches, and lost sleep come with the financial pressures of getting a business off the ground. Wine, a bubble bath, candles—they’re usually outside the budget for a new business owner, but could make a world of difference as a gift!
#4 – A subscription.
More than magazines can come in the mail every month. Stationery, food, beauty products, jewelry, books, coffee, games, and even vaporizer products can be purchased on subscription today. Help your entrepreneurial friend remember what she did for fun before work became her life!
#5 – Gloves, a wallet, or a scarf—of high quality.
Nothing makes a business owner feel less successful than having to wear thread-bare items in front of clients because they can’t afford new things. Receiving a couple nicer items—that will hold up longer than items from Target or Walmart—can alleviate that feeling.
#6 – Amazon gift card.
This one is just a kind way of saying, “Here’s some money. Get whatever you need.” Amazon can be used to purchase pretty much anything now, from groceries to movies to a new phone. Whether for business or personal, this gift won’t go unused.
#7 – A night out… with you!
It’s not just significant others who see less of entrepreneurs. It’s their friends, too. A handmade card that says, “I’ll treat you to tea” (or cake or sushi or whatever the two of you like) is a very kind gift that also comes back to you!
#8 – Continuing education.
Education is more accessible than ever these days, with online courses ranging anywhere from $12 on Udemy to $100 on Creative Live to $500 on privately-owned trade sites. Nose around a little and find out of there’s a program your friend really wants but hasn’t sprung for yet.
#9 – Peaceful sleep.
A new set of sheets, a cozy blanket, a white noise machine, and/or an essential oils diffuser with lavender are the kinds of gifts a stressed human might not think to get himself or herself, and yet be pleasantly surprised to find make sleep a lot more restful.
#10 – A gift certificate to work with a photographer.
Whether this is for family portraiture or for business use, photos are one of the most highly-coveted services today. A gift of photos will likely help another small business at the same time as it helps your small-business-owning friend. (Make sure you pick the right kind of photographer, though, and specify what the session is for!)
